First Impressions
The Radical Zing Pearl comes in a striking color combination of copper, pink and black that hints at its aggressive nature before you even throw it. The ball was released in 2020 and uses the proven asymmetric DynamiCore core, identical to the other Zing models. The specs for the 15-pound version show a 2.499 RG, a 0.051 differential and a 0.020 intermediate differential. Especially noteworthy is the Forged 2 Pearl coverstock, billed as a "Big Flip Cover" and intended to deliver maximum backend reaction. The surface is finished with 500, 1000 Siaair and Crown Factory Compound. In addition, the ball features Brunswick's innovative DynamiCore technology, which should produce less compression at impact and increase hitting power.
Comparison
Compared directly with its siblings in the Zing series, the Pearl shows the most pronounced backend reaction of all the Zing balls. While the solid and hybrid versions display a rounder, more continuous motion, the Pearl reacts noticeably more forward. Reviewers describe it as one of the most angular balls they have ever thrown. Compared to the Radical Results Pearl, the Zing Pearl stores more energy, which gives it more backend potential. The Results revs up earlier thanks to its TP (Textured Pearl) coverstock versus the Forged 2 Pearl cover on the Zing Pearl. Interesting is the observation that, contrary to expectations, the Zing Pearl reacts less round and continuous than, for example, the Hammer Redemption Hybrid, which is described as an "absolute beast." The Zing core wants to stand up quickly and roll forward, a characteristic trait of the entire series.
On the Lanes
The Radical Zing Pearl is designed for heavy oil lane conditions and offers length with a strong backend. It's especially well suited if you need more backend or midlane read when other balls run too clean through the mids. The ball balances midlane read with a strong finish, making it a fit for bowlers who don't like balls that move super "clean" through the mids and then react excessively to friction. Its strong response to friction makes it ideal for situations where it can see friction but reacts hard to it. Given these characteristics, it slots into the mid defined category of ball selection. If you already own a Zing Solid or Hybrid, the Pearl makes a sensible addition to your arsenal. Its extreme versatility makes it interesting for a range of styles, though the reaction can look different depending on how you throw it — sometimes more forward, sometimes more angular. For best results, play to its strengths and keep the core's characteristic forward roll in mind.
