First Impressions
The Storm Zero Gravity shows up in an extremely menacing black, blue and silver solid color blend. At the heart of this model beats the asymmetric Shape-Lock HD Core, which carries a low RG of 2.480, a strong differential of 0.052 and an intermediate differential of 0.020. The outer layer consists of the tacky ERG Solid Reactive coverstock, dulled to 4000 grit Abralon out of the box. This combination of an early-revving engine and the heavy surface should make the ball grab extremely early and deliver a massive, heavy roll phase.
Comparison
Compared with the Storm Zero Gravity Gold, the regular Zero Gravity offers noticeably more early traction and a far more arcing reaction in heavy oil. Next to the Storm Alpha Crux, the Zero Gravity provides similarly massive midlane control and a strong asymmetric snap at the breakpoint. Once friction on the lane increases and the transition dries out the front part of the lane, this ball reacts extremely sensitively and burns up energy immediately. It needs wet oil in the heads.
On the Lanes
The Storm Zero Gravity is best suited to lane conditions with extreme oil volume. For strokers and tweeners it opens up the option of playing direct lines on freshly oiled patterns, since the surface finds immense hold in the heads. The steady drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry, as the ball rolls extremely heavy through the pin deck. As soon as the lane dries up, however, the ball can hit flat. In those moments a smoother cover is the better call.
