First Impressions
The Brunswick Zenith Pearl comes in an eye-catching Purple/Red/Blue color combination and aims to impress with its A.X.H. (Activator Xtreme Hook) Pearl Reactive coverstock. The release date was March 4, 2021, as the pearl version of the successful Zenith series. The ball features the asymmetric Zenith core with a 2.485 RG, a 0.052 differential and a 0.019 mass bias differential in 15-pound balls. Out of the box, the ball comes with a 500 SiaAir, Crown Factory Compound and Crown Factory Polish surface. Brunswick also incorporates DynamiCore technology, which provides a more durable outer material with less compression at impact and should improve hitting power as well as pin carry.
Comparison
Head to head, the Zenith Pearl shows similar length to a Nuclear Cell and goes longer than the Hell Raiser Return. The polished surface prep gives the Zenith Pearl more length than any other current Brunswick release. While the original Zenith proves to be a hook in a box and doesn't disappoint on heavy oil conditions, but is too much ball on medium conditions once the oil in the heads is gone, the pearl version is positioned differently. The Zenith Pearl was developed to attack lanes where you still need a powerful ball, but one that doesn't see friction as early. The backend motion is described as somewhat smoother and more predictable than on the Hell Raiser Return.
On the Lanes
If you bowl on medium conditions or are looking for a strong asymmetric ball that really turns the corner, the Zenith Pearl should be a perfect addition to your bag. All testers got a strong, angular move at the breakpoint. The AXH surface is long enough out of the box that the ball is especially recommended for bowlers with high rev rates, slower ball speeds, and also for some two-handers. When the Zenith Pearl sees friction on the backend, it shows promising skid/flip potential with a hockey stick-like motion. With the core strength built into the Zenith Pearl, there is plenty of versatility to dull the surface and see a big reaction on heavier oil patterns. The ball reaction is classified as skid/flip with high hook potential.
