First Impressions
The Brunswick Zenith Hybrid shows up in an elegant Black/Ice/Smoke color scheme and technically brings together the best of both worlds. The asymmetric Zenith core provides solid baseline numbers for controlled hook with a 2.485 RG, a 0.052 differential and a 0.019 intermediate differential. The A.X.H. Hybrid coverstock (Activator Xtreme Hook) comes out of the box with a 500/1000/1500 SiaAir Micro Pad surface and should deliver reliable friction on medium lane conditions. The proven DOT (Durability Optimization Technology) and DynamiCore technologies promise increased durability and improved hitting power.
Comparison
Brunswick positions the Zenith Hybrid deliberately between the versatile Zenith Pearl and the hook-heavy Zenith Solid. The A.X.H. Hybrid coverstock should provide more hook than the Pearl, but more length than the Solid. Compared to other Brunswick high-performance balls, the Zenith Hybrid sits in the upper performance range with a reaction shape strength of 90. That places the ball clearly above mid-range options such as the Brunswick Vapor Zone Hybrid, while staying below extreme oil balls like the Brunswick Quantum Evo Solid. The hybrid formulation makes it an alternative to the Storm Phaze II, though the Brunswick should show a more direct midlane reaction.
On the Lanes
The Zenith Hybrid was not designed as the strongest oil ball or for skid/flip reactions, but is meant to sit perfectly in the middle. The combination of the Zenith core and the A.X.H. Hybrid coverstock should produce a midlane reaction with a big hook. With the rough SiaAir surface, the ball is especially suited to aggressive traction on heavier oil conditions. If you have a medium to higher rev rate, you'll benefit from the controlled asymmetry, while the hybrid characteristics should still deliver reliable results as the oil volume breaks down. Bowlers with lower rev rates can take advantage of the early hook and the increased friction. Its versatility makes it a solid option for league play and tournaments on medium lane conditions.
