BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
Released in May 2022, the 900 Global Zen Soul completes the trio of the original Zen line and positions itself strategically between the pearl and the solid model. Visually, the ball shows up in a striking "Teal/Fuchsia/Black" mix. Technically, it relies on the extremely successful Meditate Symmetric Core. This core is known for its enormous size and, with a low 2.49 RG and a high 0.051 differential (at 15 lbs), delivers quick revving and massive flare potential. The decisive feature is the S77 Response Hybrid Reactive coverstock. This is a chemical blend of two parts pearl and one part solid. Out of the box, the ball ships with a 4000-grit Abralon finish. This matte surface gives the ball immediate traction in oil without having the aggressiveness of a pure solid.
Comparison
The Zen Soul was developed to close the gap between the 900 Global Zen (pearl, polished) and the 900 Global Zen Master (solid, matte). Compared to the Zen Master, the Soul is noticeably cleaner through the heads and stores more energy for impact, since it doesn't start digging quite as early. Compared to the original Zen, the Soul reads the lane considerably earlier and offers a rounder, more controllable motion through the midlane instead of turning sharply at the end of the pattern. Drawing the comparison to the benchmark ball Storm Phaze II, the Zen Soul is similarly strong, but thanks to the huge Meditate core it often feels a bit "heavier" in its roll and creates a somewhat more defined shape at the breakpoint than the extremely round arc of the Phaze II.
On the Lanes
The 900 Global Zen Soul is the ultimate benchmark ball for medium-heavy oil. It's often the first ball you pull out of the bag to read the lane conditions. Thanks to the hybrid cover and the 4000-grit finish, it offers the best of both worlds: it blends the lane (blended reaction) by avoiding overreaction on dry boards, while still providing enough traction in oil not to slide through. It's ideal when a strong solid burns up too early and loses carry, but a shiny pearl still reacts too sensitively ("jumpy"). It lets you move left with the transition and play deeper angles without losing control of the breakpoint.
