BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The 900Global Zen Sage, released in November 2023 as an exclusive overseas release, marks a return to the proven formula that made the Zen series famous worldwide. Visually, the ball shows up with a high-gloss polished surface, often finished at the factory with Reacta Gloss to guarantee maximum aesthetics and length through the front part of the lane. Technically, the Zen Sage is based on the identical platform as the original 900Global Zen: inside works the massive Meditateâ„¢ Symmetric Core, known for its extremely large volume and its forgiving characteristics. With a low 2.49 RG and a high 0.051 differential (at 15 lbs), this core produces quick rotation and strong continuation through the pins. Wrapped around this engine is the S77 Responseâ„¢ Pearl Reactive coverstock. This combination sets the Zen Sage apart from newer US releases like the Zen Gold Label, since it relies on the more aggressive S77 blend rather than the cleaner "Reserve Blend" formula.
Comparison
Placed directly side by side, the Zen Sage behaves almost identically to the original 900Global Zen. Compared to the Zen Gold Label from 900Global, the Zen Sage reads the lane somewhat earlier and offers a rounder, more controllable motion through the midlane, while the Gold Label glides more cleanly through the heads thanks to its Reserve Blend 801 cover and shows a more angular backend reaction. Against the Zen Soul (900Global), which uses a hybrid cover, the Zen Sage offers more length and stores more energy for the backend, but has less traction in oil. Compared to the Phaze II from Storm, the Zen Sage is noticeably longer and responds more quickly to friction, so it covers the situation when balls like the Phaze II start to hook too early. It thus functions as an ideal "benchmark pearl" that is stronger than typical entry-level pearls (like the Electrify from Storm), but more controllable than asymmetric high-performance balls.
On the Lanes
The ideal scenario for the Zen Sage is a typical house shot as well as medium oil conditions where the lane has already gone through some transition (change in the oil pattern). Thanks to the S77 Response Pearl coverstock, the ball generates easy length through the heads without looking too jumpy in oil. As soon as it finds friction, the high-volume Meditate core produces a heavy, rolling move into the pocket that promises above-average carry (pin action). The ball works excellently if you want to open up the lane and have to play deeper, since it stores enough energy to reliably kick out the corner pins (ten pin) even from steep angles. If you have a lower rev rate, the big core provides help in still creating enough flare, while if you have high axis rotation you'll appreciate the backend control that keeps the ball from turning over too unpredictably.
