First Impressions
The SWAG XXXmas is a real eye-catcher on the lane and lives up to its name: the color combination of Ruby, Jade and Cream immediately calls to mind classic Christmas colors. Underneath the festive shell works the Prezzie core, a symmetrical design that at 15 lbs delivers a 2.528 RG and a moderate 0.031 differential. Those numbers point to a controlled revving up that isn't too early. This core is wrapped in the USY 2 Pearl Reactive coverstock. Out of the box the surface has a 3000-grit sand and is then polished. This combination of a tacky base grit and polish lets the ball glide cleanly through the heads while still having enough traction not to slide uncontrollably across the oil.
Comparison
Compared directly to the SWAG Jerk series, which later used the same Prezzie core (the Jerk Orange Pearl, for example), the XXXmas behaves very similarly. It offers comparable, controllable length and a round motion at the breakpoint. Next to a more aggressive ball like the SWAG Big Bro Pearl, the XXXmas is noticeably tamer and less jumpy in its reaction. Looking at the wider market, it plays in a similar category to the Roto Grip Hustle Wine or the Brunswick Rhino Pearl, but thanks to the USY 2 cover it often offers a bit more bite in the midlane than those pure entry-level balls. It's not a "skid-flip" monster, but rather a dependable partner that reads the lane without overdoing it.
On the Lanes
The SWAG XXXmas is ideal for light to medium oil conditions. Its strength lies in control on lanes that are already showing transition or are generally a bit drier. It glides effortlessly through the first part of the lane and stores its energy for a defined but not frantic move to the pocket. For tournament players it's an excellent option when the stronger balls hook too early and you're looking for a smoother line without giving up carry. Beginners will appreciate the ball's predictability, since it compensates well for mistakes in release speed and doesn't punish you right away if you send it a little too far outside.
