First Impressions
The Radical Xeno immediately catches the eye with its striking black and red solid color scheme. At its center works an asymmetric core with a low 2.494 RG and a strong 0.048 differential. This engine is wrapped in a reactive solid coverstock finished with a 500 and 4000 Siaair Micro Pad. This combination of asymmetric design and lightly sanded cover should let the ball build strong traction through the midlane without burning up its energy too early. The specs point to very strong and continuous ball motion.
Comparison Compared directly to the Radical Ridiculous Pearl, the Xeno's solid cover gets into a noticeably earlier read and offers considerably more stability in the heads. Against the Storm Phaze II, the Xeno's asymmetric core delivers a somewhat more pronounced and more asymmetric change of direction once it reaches the end of the oil pattern. As friction on the lane increases and the transition dries up the front part of the lane, the Xeno loses energy faster than balls with pearl covers because of its earlier roll. On fresh oil, however, its hook is clearly more robust.
On the Lanes The Radical Xeno is best suited to lane conditions with medium to heavy oil volume. For strokers and tweeners it offers the chance to play the boards confidently on fresh patterns, since the cover finds enough hold. The strong drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry, even on slightly missed shots. Once the lane dries up significantly, though, the ball can react too early and turn over flat. In those situations a move to weaker equipment is recommended.
