First Impressions
The AMF XCite catches the eye with a slick blue and gold pearl color scheme. Inside sits a symmetrical core with a high 2.676 RG and a moderate 0.024 differential. The outer layer is a reactive pearl cover finished to a high polish. This combination of extremely high RG, low flare potential and a smooth surface should make the ball read the lane extremely late and save the maximum amount of energy for the backend. The specs point to very long, clean ball motion.
Comparison Compared to strong solid balls like the AMF Great Escape, the XCite picks up noticeably later and offers zero traction in the heads. Against the Storm Fast Ride, the XCite's core delivers a similarly clean change of direction at the breakpoint. When friction on the lane increases massively and the transition dries up the front part of the lane completely, the XCite shines thanks to its late roll. It preserves its energy exceptionally well and provides a razor-sharp hook off the backend, where dull covers would have died long ago.
On the Lanes The AMF XCite is best suited to lane conditions with very low oil volume, or to the later stages of a league night. For strokers and tweeners it offers a way to play the dried-up boards safely, since the surface finds no unwanted hold. The delayed drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry, even from deep angles. On fresh oil, however, this ball is not the right choice, as it reacts too late and will slide through flat.
