First Impressions
The 900 Global X2 was introduced in November 2017 as a dynamic addition to the X series. Visually, the ball comes in an appealing color combination of red and silver, rounded out by a polished finish. Technically, this model is built around the symmetric Pod Core, which is specifically designed to ensure consistent rotation with moderate energy consumption. In a 15-pound ball, the core carries an RG of 2.48 and a differential of 0.035. For the cover, the X2 uses the S57 Pearl Reactive shell, finished at the factory with a 1500-grit polished finish. This combination of a low-RG core and a low-friction pearl surface should allow a clean skid phase through the heads along with a controlled reaction on the backend.
Comparison Within the 900 Global lineup, the X2 represents a further development of the original X. While the original X offers more traction in oil thanks to a solid surface, the pearl cover of the X2 provides noticeably more length and a more defined breakpoint. Compared to the Storm IQ Tour Emerald, the 900 Global X2 offers a similar degree of control through its low-RG core, but shows a somewhat later reaction to friction due to the S57 cover. Compared to the 900 Global Honey Badger, which is known for its extreme angle creation, the X2 behaves considerably calmer and more predictably. The Honey Badger uses an asymmetric core for a sharper change of direction, while the X2 maintains a more even arc shape thanks to its symmetric design. It thus fills the gap between weak entry-level balls and aggressive high-performance models.
On the Lanes The 900 Global X2 is primarily designed for light to medium oil conditions. It should make sure you can get through the heads effortlessly, even once they have already dried up slightly. The Pod Core gets the ball rolling early, which provides stability, while the pearl cover keeps the ball from hooking too soon. That makes it an excellent choice for the transition phase in league play or for tournaments on shorter oil patterns. If you have a higher rev rate, you'll benefit from the predictability of the breakpoint, since the ball does not tend toward extreme overreactions. In practice, the X2 proves to be a reliable benchmark pearl ball that provides a clean path to the pocket and, through its controlled energy release, guarantees consistent carry as the boards dry out.
