First Impressions
The 900 Global X comes in a completely deep black solid design. At its center works the symmetric Pod core, which features a low RG of 2.490 and a comparatively moderate differential of 0.035. The coverstock is the S57 Solid, finished at the factory with a 2500 grit NEAT finish. This combination of a rev-friendly core, low flare potential, and a moderately rough solid shell should make the ball start up extremely early while generating an extremely smooth, quiet motion through the midlane. The design is primarily aimed at control and predictability.
Comparison
Compared to the 900 Global Respect Solid, which has a considerably higher differential, the X offers substantially less flare and a much more arcing, controlled reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm IQ Tour Solid, the Pod core of the X delivers a marginally tamer change of direction. Once the transition sets in and the lane builds up uneven friction, the X benefits enormously from its flat core dynamics. It doesn't tend to jump off dry spots uncontrollably, but instead smooths out the differences across the boards.
On the Lanes
The 900 Global X is best suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume or to demanding, short sport patterns. For strokers and tweeners it offers the chance to play the boards very directly, since the surface minimizes unexpected reactions. The steady drive toward the pocket should provide dependable carry, especially when accuracy matters more than maximum backend power. Once the lane gets extremely wet, however, the ball can react too weakly due to its low differential, which is why it plays to its strengths as a benchmark or control ball.
