First Impressions
The Storm Warp Phaze, released in November 2016 as an exclusive international release, is a direct answer to the performance of the original Phaze. Visually, the ball stands out with its vivid color combination of gold, orange and red, giving it a fiery presence on the lane. Inside spins the proven Velocity Core (symmetric), which with a very low 2.48 RG and a high 0.051 differential (at 15 lbs) delivers quick revving and massive flare potential. Unlike the original Phaze, however, the R4S Pearl Reactive coverstock is used here. This cover, finished at the factory with a 1500-grit polish, was developed to combine the aggressive chemistry of the Reactor series with cleaner length, without sacrificing bite in the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original Storm Phaze (Root Beer/Red/Blue), which was known for its extremely early and almost "solid-like" roll phase, the Warp Phaze behaves much more like a classic pearl ball. It glides effortlessly through the heads and stores its energy for a defined move at the breakpoint. Against the legendary Storm Phaze II, considered a benchmark for traction in oil, the Warp Phaze serves as the ideal ball down. When the Phaze II starts to hook too early, the Warp Phaze offers the necessary length through its R4S Pearl cover, while retaining the familiar, stable feel in the midlane thanks to the identical Velocity Core. Compared to a Storm Hy-Road, the Warp Phaze reads the lane earlier due to its considerably lower RG (2.48 vs 2.57) and comes across as more controlled, whereas the Hy-Road often reacts only very late and sharply.
On the Lanes
The Warp Phaze is the perfect choice for medium oil and lanes that are in transition. Its strength lies in the combination of an early-revving core and a clean cover: it ignores the worn heads but reads the midlane reliably enough not to slide past the breakpoint ("blow-out"). That makes it a weapon if you need to open up the pocket but prefer the security of a low RG so the ball isn't thrown "dead." It generates plenty of hook angle while remaining predictable and avoiding the uncontrollable "jumps" that some skid/flip balls show.
