First Impressions
The Hammer Viral draws plenty of attention with its bright Silver and Blue Pearl design. Inside works the legendary symmetric Vibe core with a 2.510 RG and a moderate 0.042 differential. For the cover, Hammer relies on the Violent Flip Pearl Reactive shell, polished to a high gloss out of the box. These specs should make the ball start up extremely reliably and glide effortlessly through the heads on medium to dry lanes. The cover and the core offer the perfect mix of benchmark length and a clean hook in the backend.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Hammer Viral Solid, the pearl version shows noticeably longer ball motion, delivers less traction in oil and a slightly more angular reaction at the breakpoint. Compared to the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Viral offers a comparably steady but marginally rounder hook thanks to its specific core design. When the transition changes the lane and dry spots appear, the smooth surface keeps the ball from overreacting uncontrollably at the breakpoint. It reacts sharply, but cleanly.
On the Lanes
The Hammer Viral is most at home on dried-up and medium lane conditions. It's an excellent option if you're looking for a clean and predictable benchmark ball motion once the lanes have seen a lot of play. The symmetric core creates a clear angle at the breakpoint, which builds confidence when playing direct lines. The ball should secure carry through its late entry into the pocket. On very fresh patterns, however, it often slides through.
