First Impressions
The Hammer Viral Hybrid comes in a stylish combination of silver and blue pearl/solid elements. It's powered by the legendary symmetrical Vibe core, which carries a 2.510 RG and a 0.042 differential. The coverstock is Violent Flip Reactive Hybrid, finished with 500 and 1000 Abralon followed by factory finish polish. These specs mark the Viral Hybrid as an extremely versatile ball. The polished hybrid cover combined with the proven symmetrical core should let the ball get through the heads cleanly while generating a steady motion in the backend.
Comparison
Compared to the Hammer Viral Solid, the Viral Hybrid gets noticeably more length through the heads thanks to its polished cover, along with a sharper, more angular reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Hy-Road, which also uses a polished hybrid cover, the Viral Hybrid produces a very similar round and steady overall hook courtesy of the Vibe core. Once the transition sets in and more friction develops on the lane, the Viral Hybrid offers the stability needed to conserve energy for the backend on the changed boards.
On the Lanes
The Hammer Viral Hybrid was built for medium to lightly oily lane conditions. It lets you play consistent lines across the boards after the pattern first breaks down, without the ball making unpredictable jumps. The symmetrical core should keep excellent continuation for outstanding carry and a stable drive into the pocket. On extremely heavy oil patterns the polish could leave it skidding, but it shines on typical house shots.
