First Impressions
The Motiv VIP ExJ Limited Edition comes in a striking Royal Blue/Raspberry design and combines proven Motiv technology with modern developments. At its heart sits the proven Quadfire core with a 2.540 RG and a 0.043 differential at 15 pounds. The cover is the Infusion Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished with a 5000 grit LSP surface. The Quadfire core was already found in the original Octane ball and is considered a Motiv fan favorite. This limited run was developed in collaboration with PBA superstar EJ Tackett and is limited to just 3500 pieces worldwide. Comparison
Compared directly to other Motiv models, the VIP ExJ shows a clearly defined position. It should bite harder in oil than the Motiv Supra and deliver more power off the backend than the asymmetric Trident Nemesis. In testing it was compared to the Motiv Ripcord Flight, where it turned out that the VIP responds somewhat quicker on the backend. Bowlers describe it as a great complement to the Motiv Supra — ideal when there is a bit too much oil for the Supra but you want to stay in the same zone. It reads the midlane nicely and shows a smoother backend reaction compared to the more angular character of the Supra. The combination of the Octane core and the Infusion Pearl cover from the Supra gives it performance above its weight class. On the Lanes
The VIP ExJ is designed as a release for medium oil volumes and should glide down the lane with ease and unload on the backend with impressive power. The combination of the Quadfire core's higher RG with the clean and angular Infusion Pearl Reactive surface allows for a quick and consistent backend reaction. Bowlers report especially good results on medium lane conditions or when oily conditions start to transition. The ball offers enough control for use on the fresh pattern and throughout the entire night of bowling. Depending on how much hand you have, it suits medium to medium-heavy oil conditions. Worth highlighting is the continuation through the pin deck — the ball rolls like a truck through the pins and shows clean behavior in the heads, starts to work in the 30-40 foot range and then delivers a heavy roll on the backend with a great change of direction.
