First Impressions
The DV8 Verge Pearl comes in an understated dark blue/ocean blue color scheme and is the pearl version of the successful Verge concept. At its heart is the Threshold Core with a low RG of 2.476 (15 pounds) and a medium to high differential of 0.049, the same core that already provided strength and versatility in the original Verge. The Inciter Pearl coverstock is finished with 500/1000 Siaair and Crown Factory Compound and should deliver continuous backend length. In addition, the ball features the patented Durability Optimization Technology DOT as well as the innovative DynamiCore technology, which as a more resilient outer material should produce less compression at impact and increase hitting power. Compared to its solid predecessor, the pearl cover offers more length and a sharper backend shape, which rounds out the DV8 lineup nicely. The Verge Pearl is exactly what you would expect from a pearl version of one of the best and most versatile symmetrical balls — it is cleaner through the heads and shows a bit more pop off the backend, without being overly reactive, and it allows the same shape as the original on less oil. As the perfect option to follow the Damn Good Verge or other duller balls, it offers a smoother reaction than the DV8 Medusa or Collision. The shiny pearl surface proves less versatile than the Damn Good Verge, but it still provides plenty of success and lets bowlers create hook without trouble. On the Lanes
The combination of core and cover should deliver performance, strength and versatility on medium oil conditions, with a length-oriented reaction and a continuous backend as well as medium hook potential paired with long length. While the original Damn Good Verge was developed for medium to heavy oil volumes, the Pearl aims to achieve the same reaction on medium oil conditions. The ball works especially well as a great addition for medium conditions and for handling transition situations, offering more length and a sharper breakpoint. The clean travel through the heads with a nice move at the end of the pattern gets even better as the lanes break down and the ball reads the increased friction. If you bowl on slightly lower oil volume or later in tournament blocks, it makes a great option and becomes a league staple in the bag.
