First Impressions
The Motiv Venom Panic comes in an eye-catching pink and purple pearl color blend. Inside works the legendary symmetric Gear Core, which features a low 2.480 RG and a moderate 0.034 differential. For the cover, Motiv relies on the Turmoil MFP (Medium Friction Pearl) reactive coverstock, polished to an extremely high shine with a 5500 grit LSP finish out of the box. This combination of an enormously controlled, early-revving engine and a low-friction pearl shell should let the ball glide cleanly through the heads and build a very late but angular roll phase on the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Motiv Venom Shock with its matte solid cover, the Venom Panic delivers a considerably longer skid phase and a distinctly sharper hook at the breakpoint. Against the Storm IQ Tour Pearl, the Venom Panic offers a somewhat snappier backend motion thanks to its specific cover. When friction on the lane is high and transition dries up the front part of the lane, the Venom Panic conserves its energy exceptionally well and reacts predictably but powerfully toward the pin deck.
On the Lanes
The Motiv Venom Panic is best suited to lane conditions with light to medium oil volume. For strokers and bowlers with moderate ball speed, it offers the chance to play moderate lines, since the cover stores energy. The steady drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry. On fresh, heavy oil, however, this ball can come up short on traction because of the polished finish and skid too far through the pattern.
