First Impressions
The Dyno-Thane Vendetta is a distinctive classic in the history of bowling equipment, standing out visually with its characteristic, high-contrast Red/Black color scheme. At the center of this model works a proven symmetrical two-piece core with a moderate 2.503 RG and a solid 0.047 differential. The coverstock is a special reactive surface finished with a polish out of the box. This specific combination of a medium-high RG core system and the heavily polished shell is primarily designed to let the ball glide extremely clean and effortlessly through the heads. Instead of burning valuable rotational energy early on the lane, the material stores that power efficiently in order to build a strong, dynamic move toward the pocket on the backend. The technical setup positions the Dyno-Thane Vendetta as a classic performance ball for medium lane conditions, one that should be characterized by a good balance between maximum length and pronounced aggressiveness in the final phase. The absence of asymmetric properties also keeps the overall reaction predictable and consistent.
Comparison
Looking at the ball motion of the Dyno-Thane Vendetta in detail, a direct comparison with a modern benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II suggests itself. While the Storm Phaze II reads the oil pattern noticeably earlier thanks to its dull solid cover and slightly lower RG, producing a very even, arcing overall reaction, the Dyno-Thane Vendetta stays considerably calmer and straighter through the front third of the lane. The transition from skid into the hook phase happens perceptibly later and more angular with the Vendetta. If a proven hybrid or pearl ball such as the Storm Hy-Road is brought in as a further comparison, far clearer parallels show up in terms of the length generated. Both models use a very clean cover before they respond to the friction they encounter. Even so, the Dyno-Thane Vendetta should make a somewhat more direct and sharper change of direction once it reaches the drier parts of the lane, owing to its classic reactive makeup. On very wet conditions or extremely long oil patterns, the Vendetta's polished cover comes up short, as expected, since balls with aggressive, sanded surfaces can build the necessary traction much earlier there and avoid sliding uselessly through the breakpoint.
On the Lanes
In practical use, the Dyno-Thane Vendetta is designed first and foremost for medium to slightly dried-up lane conditions. When the heads are already well broken down and bowlers are forced to move deeper inside and cross significantly more boards, the ball should show all of its strengths. The polished reactive cover should then provide enough length to effectively prevent the ball from burning up prematurely. As soon as the material reaches the dry backend, the stored energy should release in an exceptionally sharp hook that maximizes the entry angle and thus drastically optimizes carry. If you throw at a lower ball speed, or if you generally struggle to keep the ball on the lane long enough, the factory polished surface turns out to be an immense advantage. On extremely fresh, heavily oiled patterns or with pronounced, uneven carrydown, however, the ball quickly reaches its physical limits, since it can start to slide in those scenarios. For typical league play on standard house shots, though, the Dyno-Thane Vendetta is an excellent tool for calling up a dynamic and highly reliable reaction in the later games.
