First Impressions
The Dyno-Thane Vendetta Sniper, which hit the market in the summer of 2005, comes in a striking and easy-to-read color combination of a black pearl tone and bright orange. The technological basis of this model is the proven symmetrical two-piece core of the Vendetta series, which already provided very reliable baseline stability in earlier versions. With an RG value of 2.535 and a moderate differential of 0.042, this core sits squarely in the middle of the performance spectrum. It is designed to generate a clean, energy-saving forward motion with predictable flare potential. The decisive technological highlight of this bowling ball, however, is the surface used. The core is wrapped in a highly specialized Tru-Grit Particle Pearl cover. This specific material composition combines a shimmering pearl base with very fine, grabby particle additives. Out of the box the surface is finished at 1000 grit and then lightly polished, but thanks to the Tru-Grit technology it retains a noticeable, microscopic roughness. This refined construction should allow the ball to glide smoothly and without much loss of power through the oiled heads, while still building enough traction in the midlane to read reliably even at higher oil volumes and to find an unshakably stable path to the pocket instead of sliding uncontrolled across the slick boards.
Comparison Looking at it comparatively in detail, the Dyno-Thane Vendetta Sniper positions itself as a bowling ball that offers an extremely useful hybrid reaction of good length and midlane safety, which clearly sets it apart from traditional pure pearl balls. Set against a heavily sanded, early-rolling benchmark solid like the Storm Phaze II, the Vendetta Sniper travels through the front part of the lane considerably more easily and effortlessly thanks to its polished pearl component. It stores its rotational energy in the core far more efficiently before building a more defined move toward the pins. Compared directly with its predecessor, the Dyno-Thane Vendetta Particle Pearl, however, the heavily reworked Tru-Grit technology of the Sniper provides noticeably earlier and stronger traction in oil, which results in a much smoother and more predictable arc. Next to modern asymmetrical heavy-oil models such as the Brunswick Defender, the overall dynamics of the Vendetta Sniper feel noticeably rounder and more harmonious due to the lower differential. Its symmetrical design limits the maximum hook to a level that remains easy to control at all times, so the ball is far less prone to unpredictable, jumpy overreactions once it leaves the oiled area and encounters sudden friction.
On the Lanes In practical use on the lane, the Dyno-Thane Vendetta Sniper proves to be an extremely versatile and precise tool designed primarily for medium to somewhat heavier lane conditions. The clever combination of free-sliding pearl material and biting particle additives makes it ideal for tactically demanding situations in which the oil patterns change and become hard to read. Especially on lanes with heavy carrydown, where oil has been pushed farther down by many previous shots, the additional traction of the embedded particles helps the ball enormously. It allows the ball to cut consistently through the displaced layers of oil and maintain a strong pull to the pins instead of sliding powerlessly past the intended line. If you have average to higher ball speed, you can make excellent use of the cover's natural length to get the ball effectively into its roll phase, while the moderate core layout provides the necessary stability at the breakpoint. However, as soon as the lane dries up substantially later in a tournament or league session and moves drastically into transition, the built-in friction of the Tru-Grit material can become a real disadvantage. It then grabs far too early, causing the ball to burn up its energy prematurely in the first few feet. This inevitably shows up as a flatter entry angle and noticeably reduced carry at the pin deck. For controlled play on still-intact oil patterns and medium conditions, though, this model offers an outstanding balance of the required length, enormous control, and reliable hitting power.
