At the same time, the added particles grab on the back boards to cut safely through the carrydown instead of sliding weakly off the intended line. If you generate very high ball speed, you'll benefit enormously from the stabilizing effect of the particles, while bowlers with a lower rev rate can use the clean length to get the ball into the hook effectively and without wasting energy.
