The Brunswick Vapor Zone Solid comes in a classy Plum/Navy/Black color combination and relies on proven technology. The ball is built around the Zone Asymmetric core with DynamiCore technology, which according to Brunswick provides greater durability of the outer material, produces less compression at impact and should therefore increase hitting power as well as create an unmistakable difference in sound and carry. The specs show a 2.478 RG and a 0.048 differential in the 15-pound version. The cover is the Activator Plus 2.0 solid coverstock, finished with a 500/2000 Siaair Micro Pad.
Comparison
The Vapor Zone Solid is a direct evolution of the Vintage Vapor Zone, a ball everyone appreciated for its easy length and strong backend reaction. The solid version should offer more hook in the midlane with strong continuation on heavier oil conditions. In testing, the ball shows a clean look with a smooth but angular transition, and it appears more versatile as it gets used more. The asymmetric core construction gives it a characteristic hook/set motion that can sometimes look deceptive until you count the actual boards. Compared to the Brunswick Method Solid or the Brunswick Quantum Bias, the Vapor Zone Solid offers a more controlled reaction while still being angular.
On the Lanes
The Vapor Zone Solid was designed for medium to heavy oil conditions. You can play it between boards 13 and 17 at the arrows, and despite its angularity it can still recover from further outside. If you're a stroker, you'll find your comfort zone with this ball on straight lines on fresh lanes, with excellent carry. Tweeners can use their preferred parts of the lane by starting the ball on board 16 and sending it through board 12 at the arrows out to board 8 at the breakpoint. For sport patterns, the ball works on medium sport patterns with the appropriate surface adjustment. The DynamiCore technology should not only provide better carry but also increase the ball's longevity, which makes it a solid investment if you're looking for a dependable asymmetric ball for heavier oil volumes.
