First Impressions
The Roto Grip Unhinged shows up in a bold color combination of Blue and Silver Pearl. The heart of this model is the symmetrical Late Roll 69 Core, which stands out with a 2.580 RG and a strong 0.049 differential. The cover is the 60M Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished out of the box with a 1500 grit polish. The very high RG keeps the core from revving up until extremely late, while the smooth cover should let the ball glide through the heads with total confidence and save up massive traction for the backend.
Comparison
Compared to the Roto Grip Hysteria, which has a solid cover, the Unhinged grabs noticeably later and offers a much more angular, sharper reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Unhinged generates a hard-hitting move in the drier area that snaps aggressively toward the pins at the breakpoint. As soon as the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up, the Unhinged benefits enormously from its pearl cover. It needs friction to show off its dynamics.
On the Lanes
The Roto Grip Unhinged is at its best on medium to lighter lane conditions. It's the perfect choice if you need a ball on broken-down patterns that slides easily through the heads and creates an aggressive hook toward the pocket. The late reaction helps you avoid missing the breakpoint when playing deep. The ball should maximize carry through its sharp drive. On extremely heavy oil, however, this ball is often too slick.
