BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The DV8 Turmoil Hybrid, released in February 2019, rounds out the Turmoil series as a versatile link between the solid and the pearl version. Visually, the ball comes in a sporty color combination of black, red and silver that catches the eye immediately. The surface is finished at the factory with a 500/4000 Siaair Micro Pad. That means the ball doesn't shine but has a smooth, matte texture that promises controlled traction. Inside works the proven Turmoil Symmetric core. At 15 lbs this core delivers an RG of 2.528 and a differential of 0.041. These specs place the ball in the mid performance segment. The slightly higher RG helps the ball conserve energy through the heads, while the moderate differential provides a manageable flare potential. The cover is made of Composite Hook Hybrid material, a blend designed to combine durability of line-holding in oil with the necessary response to friction at the end of the pattern.
Comparison
Compared directly to its siblings, the Turmoil Hybrid shows exactly the traits you'd expect from a hybrid. Against the DV8 Turmoil Solid it is noticeably cleaner through the heads and stores more energy for the pin deck, but it doesn't read the lane quite as early. Compared to the DV8 Turmoil Pearl, which often reacts very jumpy and angular, the hybrid offers a rounder, smoother motion at the breakpoint thanks to its 4000 finish and is less prone to overreacting on dry boards. Set against the Storm Hy-Road (also a hybrid), the Turmoil Hybrid reads the lane slightly earlier because of its matte surface (4000 grit vs. 1500 polish on the Hy-Road) and provides a more even arc, while the Hy-Road often turns the corner more sharply at the end. Next to a stronger symmetric ball like the Brunswick Cutting Edge Hybrid, the Turmoil Hybrid comes across as a bit tamer and more controllable, which makes it the better option when lane conditions get squirrely.
On the Lanes
The DV8 Turmoil Hybrid is an ideal benchmark ball for typical house shots and league play. Its strength lies in its predictability. Thanks to the 4000 surface it doesn't slide uncontrolled through the oil, but it also doesn't bite so early that it burns up. It works excellently during transition, when the oil in the heads has already worn down somewhat but you don't yet have to move far enough left to throw a polished pearl ball. It smooths out wet/dry walls very effectively, since it doesn't jump in the friction but rolls to the pocket in a controlled way. If you throw the ball at lower speed, it's an excellent choice as a first ball, since the higher RG helps get the ball down the lane. On very heavy oil it will reach its limits, as the core isn't strong enough to push through massive volume, but for medium conditions it's a reliable all-purpose weapon with solid carry.
