First Impressions
Released in May 2017, the Storm Tour Domination (often also listed as the Paradigm Tour Domination) is a special release originally conceived for the international market or as an exclusive model. The heart of this ball is the legendary asymmetric RAD+ core that made the Domination series famous. At 15 pounds, this core delivers a 2.49 RG, a 0.047 differential and a strong intermediate differential of 0.026. These numbers guarantee quick revving up and massive flare potential. This proven core is paired with the R3S Pearl Reactive coverstock. Unlike the widely used R2S formula, the R3S material has a higher porosity, which results in better readability of the midlane. The factory 1500-grit polished finish still provides enough length through the heads. Visually, the ball usually appears in a combination of Sky Blue, Black and Copper Pearl, giving it a striking presence on the lane.
Comparison Compared to the classic Storm Domination, which was often fitted with R2S covers, the Tour Domination offers a somewhat earlier and more controlled reaction in the midlane thanks to the R3S Pearl surface. It smooths out the often aggressive skid-flip motion of older pearl balls a bit without sacrificing the typical power of the RAD+ core. Compared to the Storm Code Black (released in late 2016), the Tour Domination shows a different motion profile: while the Code Black with its RAD4 core reacts extremely long and whip-like at the breakpoint, the RAD+ core in the Tour Domination creates a somewhat rounder but extremely powerful and continuous motion through the pin deck. Next to a symmetric pearl ball like the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Tour Domination comes across as considerably more dominant in oil and, due to its asymmetry and stronger core, generates substantially more torque as soon as it hits friction.
On the Lanes The Storm Tour Domination is predestined for medium to heavier oil conditions that still demand a clean pass through the heads. It shows its strengths especially when the lane starts to change (transition) and pure solid balls lose energy too early. Thanks to the R3S cover, the ball reads friction reliably without jumping off the spot uncontrollably. It is excellently suited if you like to "open up" the lane and play deeper angles, since the asymmetric core stores enough energy to secure carry in the pocket even from wide lines. It is the ideal bridge between a strongly digging solid ball (like the IQ Tour) and a jumpy skid-flip ball, combining the stability of the one with the length of the other.
