First Impressions
The Roto Grip TNT marks an explosive start to 2023 and introduces a new core technology to the HP3 line. Visually, the ball comes in an earthy mix of Amber, Fire and Spark Orange. Inside works the newly developed symmetrical Torpex core. By placing the "Torque Sphere" just above the equator, the RG has been lowered to an extremely low 2.47, while the differential stays high at 0.052 (at 15 lbs). This construction forces a very early revving up and stable roll. The cover is the eTrax PLUS Solid Reactive coverstock, finished at the factory with 2000-grit Abralon. This combination provides maximum traction in the heads and midlane and positions the ball as a strong benchmark solid.
Comparison
Compared directly to the category leader **Storm Phaze II**, the TNT reads the lane noticeably earlier. While the Phaze II is known for its ability to still make a strong move on the backend, the TNT focuses on controlling the midlane and describing a smoother, more controlled arc. Set against the **Roto Grip Idol Helios**, the TNT comes across as a technical update: it offers a very similar early-rolling character, but generates a bit more torque in the oil thanks to the Torpex core and is often more forgiving of release mistakes. Against an asymmetrical heavy-oil ball like the **Roto Grip Gem**, the TNT is less aggressive in overall hook and rolls more continuously, which makes it more versatile across different patterns.
On the Lanes
The Roto Grip TNT is the ultimate benchmark ball for medium to heavier oil conditions. It is built to smooth out the boards on fresh oil and prevent overreaction. It works perfectly as a lead-off ball for finding the pocket. Its strength is predictability: it will not jump at the breakpoint or go through the nose uncontrollably. It is ideal if you like to let the ball roll and prefer a continuous arc. Once the heads dry up, however, the TNT will lose energy too early and give up carry; at that point, a move to a polished ball is advisable.
