First Impressions
The Roto Grip TNT Infused makes a striking visual impression with a color combination of Glow, Orange, and Copper that gives it an unmistakable presence on the lane. Inside the ball works the proven Torpex core (Torque + Sphere), which already saw duty in the original TNT. At 15 lbs, this symmetrical core is defined by a very low RG of 2.47 and a high differential of 0.052. Physically, this technical configuration aims to get the ball revving early and to maximize torque. The decisive difference from its predecessor, however, lies in the cover: Roto Grip uses the eTrax PLUS Hybrid Reactive coverstock technology here. This blend consists of two parts pearl and one part solid components. Out of the box, the ball ships with the Reacta Gloss finish, which gives it a distinct shine and a smooth feel. This combination of a very early-revving, centripetal core and a cleaner, glossy hybrid shell should physically create an interesting contrast: the core wants to work early, while the cover lets the ball glide longer through the heads to store energy for the backend.
Comparison
In direct comparison to the original Roto Grip TNT (solid), the Infused shows a clearly different ball motion. While the original TNT, with its matte solid surface, tends to read the lane very early and produce a smooth, arcing motion, the Infused offers considerably more length. It gets through the front boards of the lane more cleanly and reacts more quickly to friction at the end of the oil pattern. Compared to the Roto Grip Duo, which also has a symmetrical core and a polished surface, the TNT Infused often feels somewhat rounder and more controllable through the transition thanks to the Torpex core, while the Duo tends to make a more angular move. Another relevant comparison is the Storm Phaze V: both balls target a similar segment, but the low RG of the TNT Infused (2.47 compared to higher values on other symmetrical pearl/hybrid balls) suggests that it rolls heavier and is less prone to overreaction ("over/under") than typical "skid-flip" balls. In performance terms, it therefore positions itself right between the strong hook potential of a sanded solid ball and the quick reaction of a straight pearl ball.
On the Lanes
The ideal scenario for the Roto Grip TNT Infused is medium to medium-heavy oil conditions. Its hybrid shell makes it an excellent transition ball. When a strong solid ball like the Roto Grip Gem or the original TNT starts to lose energy too early or no longer hits the pocket at the optimal angle, the Infused provides the necessary length without giving up midlane control entirely. If you have a lower rev rate, the factory polish could potentially cause the ball to slide when there is too much oil; here a slight surface adjustment with a 2000 or 3000 pad could help increase traction. If you have a higher rev rate, on the other hand, the ball often provides just the right amount of control to play steeper angles without the ball shooting uncontrollably through the breakpoint phase. As a rule it generates a strong but continuous arc, which improves carry, since the entry angle into the pocket is often more consistent than with extremely angular balls. In summary, the TNT Infused is a tool for bowlers who value the security of a low-RG core but need more energy retention for the backend in order to successfully play deeper lines on the lane.
