First Impressions
The Storm Timeless Tour was released in March 2018 as an exclusive extension of the signature series developed in collaboration with Jason Belmonte. Visually it differs from the original model through a color combination of Cherry Solid, Platinum and Black Pearl. Technically the ball is based on the innovative Dual-Drive Core, a symmetrical core-within-a-core design. In the 15-pound version it shows an RG of 2.57 and a differential of 0.050. This combination of a high RG and a high differential is designed to store maximum energy for the backend. The coverstock is R2X Hybrid Reactive, finished at the factory with a 1500 grit polish. Compared to the R2S cover of the original Timeless, the R2X material is somewhat more aggressive and should provide improved traction in the midlane without sacrificing the length the series is known for.
Comparison Compared to the original Storm Timeless, the Timeless Tour offers a slightly earlier and more stable reaction in the middle part of the lane thanks to the R2X hybrid cover. While the first Timeless was often known for its very late and at times unpredictable change of direction, the Timeless Tour should smooth out that motion and make it more predictable. Compared to the Storm IQ Tour, the Timeless Tour is clearly ahead in terms of energy at the breakpoint, but it reads the lane considerably later than the C3 core of the IQ Tour. Compared to the Storm Hy-Road, the Dual-Drive Core gives the Timeless Tour more dynamic core activity, which results in higher flare potential and a stronger overall hook capacity. Against the Storm Drive, which also belongs to the signature series, the Timeless Tour shows a cleaner skid phase through the heads, since the Drive as a solid ball reacts to the oil much earlier. This positioning makes clear that the Timeless Tour serves as a link between extremely angular pearl balls and controlled benchmark hybrid models.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the Storm Timeless Tour is on medium oil conditions where a clean look through the heads and powerful continuation through the pins are required. Thanks to the high RG of the Dual-Drive core, the ball glides effortlessly through the first boards, which makes it particularly effective if you have a high rev rate, or for later stages of a tournament when the heads have already dried up. The R2X cover provides the necessary security in the midlane to prevent uncontrolled skidding. If you throw the ball at lower speed, you should consider dulling the surface slightly in order to control the reaction at the breakpoint better. On very heavy oil the ball will probably skid too long because of its polished surface and high RG, which is why in those scenarios it works better as a complement to a dull solid ball. In the pocket the Timeless Tour stands out with exceptional energy transfer that delivers excellent carry. All in all it is a versatile tool for bowlers looking for a unique, dynamic motion that sets itself apart from classic symmetrical balls.
