First Impressions
Released in July 2018, the Storm Timeless Space is an exciting "International Release" (aimed primarily at the Asian and European markets) that expands Jason Belmonte's signature line. Visually it comes in a mystical "Amethyst/Sapphire" color scheme that lives up to the name "Space." Technically it is built around the unique Dual-Drive Symmetrical core, a construction in which one weight block was placed inside another in order to optimize energy transfer and rev rate. With a very high RG of 2.57 and a high differential of 0.051 (at 15 lbs), this core is designed to get through the heads extremely easily and rev up quickly. This is combined with the R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock and a 1500 grit polished finish. The mix aims to smooth out the sometimes critical sensitivity of the original Timeless and to deliver a clean but explosive backend reaction.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original Storm Timeless (hybrid, blue/amber), which split the bowling world (some loved it, others found it touchy), the Timeless Space is often considered the more user-friendly version. Where the original sometimes reacted unpredictably with over/under, the pure pearl cover of the Space helps get the ball through the heads more cleanly and hit the "spot" at the breakpoint more definitively. It feels less nervous in the midlane. Bringing the Storm Hy-Road into the comparison (similarly high RG), the Timeless Space generates a faster rev-up through the Dual-Drive core and turns the corner more sharply at the end. The Hy-Road is rounder and more continuous; the Timeless Space is more aggressive in its change of direction as soon as it feels friction.
On the Lanes
The Storm Timeless Space is predestined for medium oil conditions and drier lanes. Like all Belmo balls, it was developed with the two-handed style in mind, but it works excellently for any player who needs help getting the ball down the lane ("projection"). Its strength is the transition phase: when the heads are dry and solids hook too early, the Space shines. Thanks to the high RG it almost completely ignores dry heads and saves all of its energy for a huge hit at the pin deck. It is ideal for opening up the pocket wide and playing deep angles, but it does require a precise hand at the release, since the fast core will indeed make inconsistencies in rotation visible.
