First Impressions
The Storm Timeless SE was released in December 2017 as an international special edition (overseas release) within the Signature Line. Visually, the ball stands out with a striking color combination of Platinum, Royal and Magenta, and it carries the manufacturer's trademark citrus scent. Technically, the model is built around the innovative Dual-Drive core, a symmetrical construction in which one weight block is placed inside another to allow faster rotation and improved energy transfer. In a 15-pound ball, the RG is 2.57 and the differential is 0.050. The cover is the R2X Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished at the factory with a 1500-grit polish. This combination should deliver a clean skid phase through the heads and a powerful backend reaction.
Comparison Compared to the original Storm Timeless, which uses an R2S Hybrid cover, the Storm Timeless SE gets even more length down the lane thanks to its R2X Pearl surface. While the hybrid model responds to friction earlier and shows a somewhat rounder overall motion, the pearl version of the SE edition glides more effortlessly through the heads and creates a more angular breakpoint. Compared to the Storm Hy-Road Pearl with its Inverted Fe2 core, the Storm Timeless SE is more dynamic through the midlane because of the Dual-Drive core and offers a higher flare potential. In a direct comparison with the Storm Code Black, which features an asymmetric core, the Timeless SE shows a more controlled change of direction while retaining a similar aggressiveness in the backend, without the sometimes unpredictable sharpness of an asymmetric high-performance ball.
On the Lanes The Storm Timeless SE finds its ideal use on medium to slightly drier conditions, once the heads have started to break down. Thanks to the pearl cover and the polished finish, the ball should make sure energy is not spent too early, which makes it especially attractive if you have a high rev rate or lower ball speed. It lets you play deeper angles and move well outside of the middle of the lane, since it reliably uses the friction in the backend to get back to the pocket. In situations where benchmark balls such as a Storm IQ Tour roll up too early or lose their punch, the Timeless SE can provide the carry you need. That makes it an excellent tool for the transition phase of a tournament or for the later stages of league play, when the lane calls for more length and a sharper angle.
