First Impressions
Released in May 2017 exclusively for the international market, the Storm Time Lock is a high-performance ball that continues the extremely successful Lock series. At the center of the construction sits the proven asymmetric RAD-X core. This core is known for its enormous power output and, at 15 pounds, delivers a low RG of 2.48, a high differential of 0.054 and an intermediate differential of 0.018. These numbers guarantee quick revving up and massive flare potential on the lane. This aggressive core is wrapped in the R3X reactive coverstock, finished here with a 1500 grit polish. The R3X formula was developed to close the gap between the very clean R2S shell and the extremely tacky NRG shell (Nano). In the polished version, the ball signals a combination of effortless glide through the heads and a defined, strong reaction to friction.
Comparison Compared to the Storm Snap Lock, which also uses the RAD-X core but relies on the R3S pearl shell, the Time Lock offers somewhat different traction thanks to the R3X chemistry. While the Snap Lock is often perceived as very "slippery" through the heads and extremely whippy off the backend, the R3X component gives the Time Lock a somewhat more stable feel through the midlane without losing aggressiveness at the breakpoint. Set against the original Storm Lock (solid/hybrid), the Time Lock goes considerably longer and saves more energy for the pocket. The original Lock digs in early through the oil, while the Time Lock glides over the heads. Compared to symmetric options like the Storm Phaze II, the Time Lock offers noticeably more torque at the breakpoint due to its asymmetry and is capable of playing steeper angles without losing hitting power.
On the Lanes The Storm Time Lock is an excellent choice for medium to heavier oil conditions, especially once the pattern has been broken in a bit. Thanks to the strong asymmetric core, the ball needs a certain amount of oil in the heads so it doesn't roll out too early ("burn up"). The polished surface helps it ignore burned-up heads, while the aggressive core makes sure the ball doesn't "float" in the pocket but drives powerfully through the pin deck. It works exceptionally well if you like to play the ball deep from the inside out (hook), since the RAD-X core makes sure the ball comes back reliably even from wide angles. When dull balls lose energy too early and hit the pins flat, the Time Lock provides the length and angle needed to maximize carry again.
