First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Throw Down draws every eye with its striking Red, White and Blue solid design. At its center works the asymmetric SD Medium RG Core, which carries a 2.510 RG, a strong 0.054 differential and a 0.017 intermediate differential. This core is wrapped in the QR-7 Solid Reactive coverstock, finished with a dull 500 and 2000 Abralon surface. The medium RG lets the core rotate in defined fashion, which in combination with the smooth cover should make the ball glide very safely through the heads and produce a very sharp move in the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly with strong solid balls like the Columbia 300 Melt Down, the Throw Down picks up extremely late and offers a considerably more agile, more angular reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Crux, the Throw Down behaves similarly on oily lanes and provides a steady hook. As soon as the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up, this ball is strong. It asks for boards at the breakpoint in order to unload its gentle motion through the heads massively into the pins.
On the Lanes
The Columbia 300 Throw Down is most at home on medium to heavy lane conditions. It is an excellent option if you need a ball on played-in patterns that slides easily through the heads and creates a steady, strong hook toward the pocket. The late reaction helps to attack the breakpoint from deep angles. The ball should help secure carry when the angles are good. On extremely dry boards, however, it slides out of the line.
