First Impressions
Released in June 2022, the Swag Swagger Showoff from California Bowling (Swag/Lord Field) immediately stands out with its striking green, purple and blue color scheme. Technically, this ball separates itself from the pack with an interesting combination of numbers. At its center works the symmetrical Crank3r Core, which comes with an extremely high 2.572 RG and a medium 0.045 differential (at 15 lbs). An RG value that high normally points to extreme length. However, Swag pairs this core with the Bragger 1 pearl reactive coverstock, which comes out of the box not polished but sanded to a 3000-grit Abralon finish. This dull surface on a pearl shell is unusual and aims to balance the core's natural length with more traction through the midlane.
Comparison
Because of its very high RG value, the comparison to the legendary Storm Hy-Road suggests itself, as that ball also has a 2.57 RG. But where the Hy-Road, with its hybrid shell and polish, often reacts very late and sharply, the Swagger Showoff feels considerably more controlled and rounder thanks to the 3000-grit finish. It doesn't skid through the oil as aggressively as a Storm Phaze V or a 900 Global Wolverine; instead it builds its rotation earlier without being hook-early. Compared to stronger symmetrical balls like the Storm Phaze II, it lacks the torque for heavy oil, but it offers more safety on inconsistent backends than many shiny "skid-flip" balls.
On the Lanes
The Swagger Showoff is ideal for medium to lighter oil volumes ("light-medium"). Its strength lies in controlling the transition. When the front part of the lane dries up ("fried heads"), the core's high RG helps push the ball effortlessly through the first few feet without it jumping too early. At the same time, the dull 3000-grit surface keeps the ball from reacting oversensitively to dry boards at the breakpoint. That makes it an excellent choice for league play later in the evening, when you have to control the pocket but strong solids burn up too early and shiny pearls react too unpredictably.
