First Impressions
The Ebonite Striking Motion comes in a classic, understated Navy Blue. Behind that single-color look sits an asymmetric high-performance ball originally designed for oily lane conditions. At the heart of the ball works the asymmetric Flat Iron Core. The hard numbers include a 2.56 RG, a 0.040 differential, and a 0.022 intermediate differential. These values place the ball in the upper performance segment and point to a strong reaction profile. Wrapped around this core is the Super Shell 1.0 coverstock, which comes out of the box with a 4000-grit Abralon finish. This dull cover texture should ensure the ball develops enough traction without wasting unnecessary energy in the first few feet of the lane. The combination of the asymmetric core and the rough surface is deliberately built to glide easily through the heads while still maintaining a massive, continuous turning motion before the ball enters its final phase.
Comparison
Comparing it to other asymmetric heavyweights like the Storm Virtual Gravity reveals subtle but decisive differences. While the Storm ball is often known for a very abrupt and extremely sharp reaction at the breakpoint, the Ebonite Striking Motion creates a somewhat rounder but very continuous motion. Against strongly rolling symmetric options like the Storm Phaze II, the asymmetry of the Flat Iron core also shows clearly. Where the symmetric ball behaves extremely smoothly and predictably, the Striking Motion generates noticeably more overall hook and responds more dynamically to the friction at the end of the oil pattern. Compared to balls with polished cover materials, the solid surface of the Striking Motion reads the lane considerably earlier, which makes it superior on fresh oil but brings it to its limits more quickly as conditions dry up.
On the Lanes
On the lane, the Ebonite Striking Motion plays to its strengths best on patterns with medium to high oil volume. Its primary application is fresh conditions, where weaker balls would slide out in the heads or miss the breakpoint. Thanks to the traction of the Super Shell 1.0 surface, the ball builds traction reliably and offers a strong, continuous move toward the pocket. If you like to throw your balls across a lot of boards and play deep lines, you'll benefit immensely from the strong overall hook this ball creates. If you throw the ball fast or have a lower rev rate, the Striking Motion gives you the support you need to get the ball into a stable roll phase in time. On the other hand, if your ball speed is lower, be careful once the transition sets in. As soon as the lanes get drier, the rough cover can cause the ball to build friction too early and lose power. In those situations carry suffers noticeably, since the ball no longer has the necessary kinetic energy when it reaches the pins. For the first block of a tournament or for leagues with heavier oil patterns, however, this ball is an absolutely reliable choice for successfully dominating the lane conditions.
