BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Speed, released in March 2022, marks an aggressive addition to the pro-performance segment. Visually, the ball makes a clear statement for traction with its "Formula 1" hybrid coverstock in Crimson, Black and Cherry. Inside works the newly developed Shifter Core, an asymmetric core that comes in with a 2.478 RG and a 0.050 differential (at 15 lbs), plus an intermediate differential of 0.015. Out of the box, the surface arrives with a rough 500/1500 Siaair Micro Pad finish. This combination of a matte hybrid cover and a strong asymmetric core signals immediately: this ball wants to read early and clear a lot of oil.
Comparison In a direct comparison, the Speed positions itself clearly above the Columbia 300 Power Torq. While the Power Torq is symmetric and behaves in a more controlled fashion, the Speed offers more torque and a quicker response to friction thanks to the Shifter core. It is not, however, quite as extremely early rolling as a true "snow tire" (for example the Storm Proton Physix). A very fitting external comparison is the Roto Grip RST X-1: both use a hybrid cover over an asymmetric core for a versatile but strong motion. The Speed often comes across as somewhat rounder and more continuous than the sometimes sharper-reacting RST X-1, or the 900 Global Reality, which shows even more total hook.
On the Lanes The Columbia 300 Speed is the first choice for fresh, oily lane conditions ("heavy oil"). It serves as an ideal benchmark ball for the start of a tournament or league session when you need traction to open up the pocket without the ball burning up right away. Thanks to the hybrid cover it retains — unlike many pure solids — a bit more energy for the backend, which keeps it usable even when you have to move deeper into the lane (farther left). It smooths over wet/dry transitions very well and offers a heavy, rolling motion through the pins that helps carry even on less than perfect hits.
