First Impressions
The Storm Sky Rocket catches the eye immediately with its striking Sky Blue and Charcoal Pearl design. At its center works the symmetrical Booster Core, which shows a 2.540 RG and a solid 0.046 differential. This core is wrapped in the proven R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished with a 1500-grit polished surface. This combination of a moderate core and an extremely smooth cover should let the ball skid through the heads with great reliability and develop a very strong, sharp roll phase in the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly with the Storm Rocket, which uses a hybrid cover, the Sky Rocket offers noticeably more length through the heads and a much more angular, sharper reaction on dried-up boards. Put up against a ball like the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Sky Rocket shows a somewhat more moderate kick in the midlane, but it generates a very similar line. Once transition sets in over the course of a game, the R2S Pearl cover tends to save energy perfectly for the breakpoint.
On the Lanes
This ball is a pure specialist for medium oil patterns. It's the perfect choice for house leagues or tournaments when the front boards start to break down. Bowlers benefit from the fact that the ball doesn't overreact immediately on dry lanes, but instead plays off the steady core. The core should maximize carry through a powerful hit into the pocket. As soon as the lane is extremely fresh and heavily oiled, however, the Sky Rocket has to be swapped out, since it then lacks the necessary traction.
