First Impressions
The SWAG Silver Bell, released in December 2021, is a dazzling addition to the California Bowling lineup, designed both visually and technically for length and angle. The ball comes in a striking, completely silver design that, thanks to its high-gloss polished surface, looks like a mirror ball on the lane. Inside works the modified Dynamite V2 Symmetric Core. Unlike many other symmetrical cores that are built to roll early, this core was specifically modified for a late reaction. At 15 pounds it delivers a very high RG of 2.546 and a strong differential of 0.052. This combination is classic for balls that glide effortlessly through the heads and save their energy almost entirely for the backend. The cover is the Composite Pearl coverstock, finely sanded and heavily polished at the factory. This configuration drastically minimizes friction in the front part of the lane and makes sure the ball only reacts once it hits substantial friction.
Comparison If you bring the Storm Hy-Road Pearl in for comparison, both balls operate in the "high RG pearl" category. The SWAG Silver Bell, however, has a clearly higher differential (0.052 versus roughly 0.046 on the Hy-Road), which gives it a more aggressive and sharper change of direction at the breakpoint, while the Hy-Road is a bit rounder. Compared to the 900 Global Zen, also a symmetrical pearl ball, the Silver Bell is considerably longer. The Zen has a much lower RG and reads the midlane noticeably earlier, which makes it more stable but less angular. The Silver Bell, on the other hand, skips the midlane almost completely when there is oil present. Against the in-house SWAG Dynamite (black/red), which used the original Turbine core, the Silver Bell is more radical in its length orientation. Where the Dynamite still offered a certain amount of control in the middle of the lane, the Silver Bell relies almost entirely on the reaction at the end of the pattern, which makes it a pure "skid-flip" monster.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the SWAG Silver Bell is lanes with medium to low oil volume or heavily played, broken down conditions. It is a weapon for the late transition, when the heads have already dried up and stronger balls lose energy too early or hook uncontrollably. Thanks to the high RG, the Silver Bell ignores the dry heads and stores its rotation until well down the lane. That makes it perfect if you are forced to stand deep inside and throw the ball way out to the edge. It generates enough angle to get back to the pocket even from steep positions, and it provides explosive carry because it still has plenty of rotational energy at impact. On fresh, long oil, though, the ball should be handled with care, since it can tend to squirt past the breakpoint — it lacks the teeth to grab in oil. It is therefore the classic "late block" ball for tournament players.
