First Impressions
The Hammer Rhodman Pearl was released on March 6, 2018 and is the second release in the Rhodman series, developed in honor of Bill Rhodman and the partnership with the TNBA. Visually, the ball impresses with a deep Purple Pearl coverstock. Inside works the proven symmetrical Spheroid Core, which already made waves in the Bad Intentions series. The specs for a 15-pound ball show a low RG of 2.48 and a moderate differential of 0.048. This core geometry is designed to get into the roll phase quickly and generate a lot of dynamics. The core is wrapped in the Juiced Maxx Pearl coverstock, prepared at the factory with a 500/2000 Abralon finish and brought to a high gloss with Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish. In addition, the ball features the patented Carbon Fiber Outer Core, which should provide increased durability.
Comparison Compared to the original Hammer Rhodman (Solid), the Rhodman Pearl offers noticeably more length through the heads and a much more angular direction change at the breakpoint. While the Rhodman Solid was designed for oilier conditions and a continuous arc shape, the pearl version stores its energy for an explosive backend. Compared with the Hammer Rebel Yell, the Rhodman Pearl slots in as the stronger option, since it picks up earlier in the midlane and has a higher overall hook potential. In a cross-brand comparison with the Storm Phaze II, the Rhodman Pearl shows a cleaner skid phase thanks to its polished surface, but reacts more sharply to friction at the end of the oil pattern. Against the Hammer Gauntlet Fury, which uses an asymmetrical core, the Rhodman Pearl offers a more controlled and more predictable overall motion, which makes it a stable benchmark option in the pearl segment. Compared to the Hammer Rip D, it offers more versatility on medium oil volumes, since it reacts less aggressively in the midlane.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the Hammer Rhodman Pearl is on medium oil conditions. Through the combination of the quickly revving Spheroid Core and the polished Juiced Maxx Pearl shell, the ball offers an excellent mix of control and hitting power. It is especially effective when the lanes start to dry up over the course of a set and dull solid balls react too early or lose energy. If you throw at moderate ball speed, you'll benefit from the built-in length, while rev-dominant players can use the ball to play deeper angles and navigate the transition safely. On typical house shots, the Rhodman Pearl allows a game over the middle boards with a very defined move into the pocket. On extremely heavy oil, however, the ball could skid too long unless the surface is adjusted with a duller finish. In the pocket, the carbon fiber technology delivers impressive pin action and outstanding carry. Overall, the Rhodman Pearl is a versatile powerhouse for bowlers looking for strong symmetrical performance with a distinct backend.
