First Impressions
The Big Bowling Rekker Extreme, released in March 2022, is a powerhouse for demanding conditions. Visually, the matte two-tone shell in "Red Solid" and "Black Solid" signals its purpose immediately: traction. Under the hood works the proven Powder Keg Core, a symmetrical core that provides early and stable revving up with a low RG of 2.468 and a moderate differential of 0.040 (at 15 lbs). The key new element is the E7.5 Solid Reactive coverstock. This chemically aggressive blend comes out of the box with a rough 1500-grit finish, which helps the ball dig deep into the oil instead of skidding over it.
Comparison Within the lineup, the Rekker Extreme is the clearly stronger evolution of the original Shim Rekker. While the predecessor, with its weaker ME6 shell, served more as a benchmark for medium conditions, the Extreme was beefed up with the E7.5 cover to generate considerably more overall hook and an earlier hold in the oil. A fitting external comparison is the Storm Phaze II: both balls use a low-RG symmetrical core and an aggressive solid cover to smooth out the lane. The Rekker Extreme often behaves very continuously and avoids jerky movement at the breakpoint, similar to an Ebonite Game Breaker 4, but with more bite in the oil.
On the Lanes The Rekker Extreme is designed primarily for heavy oil and fresh lane conditions. It is the ideal choice when you need a controlled but powerful reaction that doesn't overload the backends. Thanks to the rough surface and the stable core, it reads the midlane excellently and provides security when the lane feels slick. It suits you particularly well if you like to let the ball roll and prefer a smooth, flowing motion instead of waiting on a late snap. Once the heads start to dry up, however, you should switch to a ball with more length (such as the Big Shim), since the Extreme otherwise loses too much energy in the first few feet.
