First Impressions
Released in June 2022, the 900 Global Reality Check is the long-awaited addition to the popular Reality line. Although it is often taken for a solid because of its dull appearance, it is technically a hybrid. Visually, the ball shows up in a dark combination of "Indigo/Maroon/Black." Inside works the mighty Disturbance Asymmetric Core, the same engine that already powered the original. With a 2.49 RG and a massive 0.052 differential (at 15 lbs), this core provides early revving and high flare potential. The new part is the shell: the S84 Beta Hybrid Reactive coverstock. This blend was developed to close the gap between the heavy S84 Response Solid (original Reality) and the pearl version (Altered Reality). Out of the box, the ball comes with a 4K-Fast finish, a surface that is textured but comes across smoother than a classic 2000-grit sand, which provides a bit more length.
Comparison
The most important point of comparison is the original 900 Global Reality (solid). While the original Reality is an absolute monster for heavy oil that digs in extremely early and makes a very round motion, the Reality Check offers noticeably more push through the heads thanks to the S84 Beta Hybrid shell and the 4K-Fast finish. It is cleaner through the heads but still reads the midlane strongly and creates a more defined, more angular motion at the breakpoint than the solid. Compared to the 900 Global Altered Reality (pearl), the Check is considerably more stable in oil and does not react as extremely "jumpy" to friction. It sits right in the middle: it offers more hook and traction than a 900 Global Wolverine Dark Moss, but is more controllable and more versatile than a pure heavy-oil tank like the Storm Proton Physix.
On the Lanes
The Reality Check is a phenomenal choice for medium-heavy to heavy oil. It works excellently as the first ball out of the bag (benchmark) when you are not sure whether the lane is too dry for a pure solid or too oily for a pearl. Its hybrid nature lets it handle transition excellently: when the original Reality burns up too early and loses carry, the Check offers the length needed to store energy without overshooting the target at the breakpoint. It allows you to play deeper angles than with a pure solid, since it has more "pop" on the backend. It is especially effective on typical house league patterns that are freshly oiled, as well as on longer sport patterns where you need control into the pocket.
