First Impressions
The 900 Global Reality Check expands the popular high-performance line with a versatile hybrid variant and shows up in a rich color combination of indigo and maroon. At its heart is still the massive asymmetric Disturbance core, which at 15 lbs delivers a very low RG of 2.49, a differential of 0.052 and an intermediate differential of 0.018. These numbers guarantee an early revving and enormous torque. What's new is the shell: here the S84 Beta Hybrid Reactive coverstock comes into play. One decisive technical detail is the surface finish. The ball ships with the 4K-Fast treatment. This means the surface is not high-gloss polished but has a fine, smooth finish that helps the ball get through the heads cleaner than a classic solid, while still offering considerably more traction in oil than a shiny pearl surface.
Comparison
Placing the Reality Check is easy, since it was positioned exactly between two giants. Compared to the original 900 Global Reality (solid), the Check offers noticeably more length through the heads and saves more energy for the back end of the lane. Where the solid Reality often digs in early and describes a very round arc, the Check shows more "pop" off the backend. Compared to the (now discontinued) 900 Global Altered Reality (pearl), the Check reads the lane earlier and reacts less sensitively to excess oil in the midlane. It is more controllable and rounder than the angular Altered. An excellent external comparison is the Storm Infinite PhysiX: both balls use a hybrid shell and a similar finish. In a direct comparison, though, the Reality Check often comes across as a touch stronger in overall hook and a bit earlier in the read, which makes it a "big" ball that still doesn't burn up immediately.
On the Lanes
The 900 Global Reality Check is an absolute heavyweight for medium to heavy oil patterns. It works excellently as the first ball out of the bag (a benchmark ball for heavy oil), since it offers the perfect balance between traction and energy retention. Thanks to the 4K-Fast finish it glides well through the first few feet of the heads, then reads the midlane reliably without sliding past the breakpoint. It is the ideal solution when a pure solid ball feels too sluggish or rolls too early, but a pearl ball still reacts too unpredictably to friction. Once the transition sets in, the Reality Check lets you play deeper angles and open up the pocket, while the asymmetric core keeps enough power to maximize carry and mix the pins deep in the deck.
