First Impressions
The Ebonite Real Time presents itself as an eye-catching bowling ball in a purple-violet color with a gold logo imprint. It builds on the success of the Big Time and extends Ebonite's mid-level performance line. The ball uses the proven symmetrical Big Time core with a 2.508 RG and a 0.054 differential (at 15 lbs). The coverstock is the HK22-GB 13.7 Solid combination, finished out of the box with a 500, 1000, 1500 Siaair/Factory Compound surface. It is worth noting that the ball ships polished despite a solid coverstock, which is rather unusual for a solid ball. The Real Time is designed specifically for medium oil conditions and should provide length with a strong backend. This combination of HyperKinetic 22 (HK22) and GameBreaker 13.7 (GB13.7) additives in the coverstock appears to create a very dynamic ball motion. It features DynamiCore technology, which should provide improved durability and pin action.

Comparison
Compared to its predecessor, the Big Time SE, the Real Time shows a considerably more dynamic motion pattern. Where the Big Time SE reacted rather slowly and evenly with its sanded pearl coverstock, the Real Time delivers a noticeably sharper change of direction at the breakpoint despite its solid base. This strong backend reaction makes the ball an interesting option if you need an aggressive finish. In direct comparisons, the Real Time shows similarities to the Motiv Primal Rage Evolution, even though the technical components of the two balls hardly overlap. The Real Time proved to be considerably stronger and earlier-reacting than the Storm Road Warrior. Against the Origin Hybrid from 900 Global, the Real Time is somewhat more controllable, but still offers enough power for demanding conditions. Compared to the Storm Summit Ascent, the Real Time is clearly sharper and quicker to react, which sets it apart from typical benchmark balls. The comparison with the balls of the GB series is also interesting: because of its higher RG, the Real Time travels a bit further down the lane than the GB series, which can be an advantage on house conditions with too much friction in the track area.

On the Lanes
The Real Time seems to shine in two scenarios in particular: playing medium oil conditions and during the transition phase. Its combination of a solid coverstock with polish provides both traction and responsiveness to friction. On the lane, the ball shows an impressive ability to glide through the midlane and then make a controlled but strong change of direction at the breakpoint. If you have a low rev rate, the Real Time could be a good choice. While such players often have trouble with pearl balls because they hook too early and then lose energy, the Real Time's solid coverstock provides a more even reaction on early friction contact and keeps enough energy for the backend. Bowlers on a limited budget will also appreciate the high performance at a moderate price. Played too straight or too far outside, the ball can overreact, while it reaches its limits with too much angle. Taking the surface down to 1500 or 2000 grit can create an even more controllable reaction that could even make it the first ball out of the bag. The Real Time also proves adaptable to different layouts. Good results have been achieved with layouts such as 60° x 4.5" x 30° and 45° x 4.5" x 45°. Some bowlers have even drilled two Real Times with different layouts — one pin-up and one pin-down with an adjusted surface — to create an effective combination for house conditions. In summary, the Ebonite Real Time is an impressive mid-level performance ball that convinces with its combination of strong backend reaction and reasonable control. It offers the performance of a high-performance ball at a moderate price and could be a valuable addition if you are looking for a ball for medium oil conditions or the transition phase.
