First Impressions
The Ebonite Real One, released in October 2017, marks the return of one of the most iconic core technologies in the history of the sport. The heart of this ball is the asymmetric Centreplex Core, which already made the legendary One series famous. With a low RG of 2.48, a high differential of 0.054 and a pronounced intermediate differential of 0.027 (at 15 lbs), this core is designed to rev up early and generate massive flare potential. To equip this powerful engine for modern lane conditions, Ebonite wrapped it in the GB 13.3 Solid coverstock. This coverstock represents a significant evolution of the well-known Game Breaker chemistry and should deliver a noticeably more aggressive bite into the oil. Visually, the ball impresses with an elegant combination of blue, black and silver. The factory finish, however, is unusual for a solid cover: it is sanded with 500/1000 Abralon and then brought to a high gloss with Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish. This combination of a strong asymmetric core, a potent solid cover and a polished finish should create a unique balance between length and controlled aggressiveness.
Comparison Compared directly to the original Ebonite The One, the Real One offers considerably more overall traction in oil thanks to the modernized GB 13.3 chemistry, without losing the characteristic motion of the Centreplex core. Set against the Ebonite Game Breaker 2 (Solid), it becomes clear that the Real One generates substantially more dynamics and a steeper entry angle into the pocket by virtue of its asymmetric core, while the Game Breaker 2 describes a calmer, symmetric arc. Against a Storm Phaze II, considered the benchmark for symmetric solid balls, the Real One shows a later reaction in the heads, but acts much more decisively through the transition and shows a stronger hook at the breakpoint. Compared to an asymmetric pearl ball like the Hammer Gauntlet Fury, the Real One offers more stability in the midlane thanks to the solid content in its cover and reacts less sensitively to wet spots within the oil pattern. It thus closes the gap between extremely dull high-performance balls and the very clean, angular pearl versions.
On the Lanes The Ebonite Real One is designed as a versatile benchmark ball for medium to heavier oil conditions. Thanks to the polished solid cover, it offers the rare ability to get cleanly through the heads even when they are already slightly broken down, while the strong asymmetric core provides the necessary stability in the midlane. It is an ideal ball if you have a high rev rate and often struggle with the ball losing energy too early on dull surfaces. Likewise, if you have a lower rev rate, you'll benefit from the strong core dynamics, which can noticeably improve carry. In scenarios where the transition on the boards causes pearl balls to react too unpredictably and dull solid balls to hit too flat, the Real One should provide a reliable solution. It allows the ball to be played across several boards without the motion at the breakpoint becoming uncontrollable. Because it reads friction very evenly, it is excellently suited for use on typical house shots as well as on moderately long sport patterns, where a clean backend reaction is decisive for an optimal angle into the pocket.
