First Impressions
The Radical Rattler is a direct answer to many bowlers' wish for a modern version of the legendary "Intel" or "Bonus" series. Visually it shows up in a toxic combination of teal and black. Technically it marks the return of a modified version of the popular Yeti core: this symmetrical Rattler core delivers a very low 2.480 RG at 15 lbs and a moderate 0.035 differential. These numbers classically stand for control, an early read and a calm flare. The cover is the MOtion Magic hybrid coverstock, which comes out of the box with a dull 500/1500/4000 Siaair finish. Despite the "hybrid" designation, this surface treatment makes the ball behave almost like a solid: it reads the lane very evenly and avoids hectic movement.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Radical Bonus, which it replaces in the lineup, the Rattler is noticeably more dynamic. Where the Bonus often felt very smooth and at times a little sluggish, the Rattler's MOtion Magic cover (also used on the Trail Blazer) provides stronger drive off the backend and better carry. Set against the Radical Bigfoot, the Rattler reads the lane considerably earlier and moves in a rounder shape, while the Bigfoot skids longer and turns more angularly. Looking at the wider market, it positions itself as a slightly weaker but more controllable alternative to the Storm Phaze II. It is stronger than a Roto Grip Hustle, but offers exactly that "smoothing" quality you expect from a benchmark ball.
On the Lanes
The Radical Rattler is the ideal benchmark ball for medium oil conditions and typical house patterns. Its superpower is consistency. It is perfectly suited to taming nervous wet/dry conditions where balls either slide too far or jump too hard. The Rattler largely ignores those edges and drives to the pocket in a predictable arc. It is an excellent choice as the first ball out of the bag to see how the lane plays, without any risk of the ball becoming uncontrollable. If you have a higher rev rate it is a dream in terms of control, while if you have less rotation you'll benefit from its ability to read the midlane reliably.
