First Impressions
The Seismic Raging Bull TSE, with the abbreviation standing for Tournament Special Edition, comes in a classic and deliberately understated Tournament Black. Inside this high-performance bowling ball works the asymmetric HORN core, known for its enormously dynamic properties and high energy transfer. Wrapped around this asymmetric engine is the TSE Solid Reactive cover. Interestingly, this solid ball ships from the factory with a high-gloss polished surface, which stands in contrast to the otherwise typical dull finish of solid covers. At a standard weight of 15 pounds, the core shows a comparatively low radius of gyration (RG) of 2.500, paired with a very high primary differential of 0.054 and a mass bias, or intermediate differential, of 0.020. These hard technical specs point to an asymmetric ball that revs up quickly and has enormous flare potential. The low RG value fundamentally makes the Raging Bull TSE want to enter the roll phase early. Out of the box, however, the polished surface lets the ball glide through the heads with surprisingly little resistance, without wasting valuable rotational energy prematurely. The high differential combined with the asymmetric mass bias promises an extremely quick and sharp change of direction at the breakpoint.
Comparison Comparing the Seismic Raging Bull TSE to a well-established reference ball like the Storm Phaze II for the sake of placing it, the strong contrasts between the symmetric and asymmetric concepts as well as the different finishes become more than obvious. The Storm Phaze II is a symmetric solid that ships with a dull surface and is valued in the bowling world for its highly predictable, smooth and steady arc. The Raging Bull TSE behaves completely differently in direct comparison. Thanks to the asymmetric core design and the high-gloss polished solid cover, it stores considerably more energy for the back part of the lane despite the low RG value. While the Storm Phaze II reads the midlane very strongly and moves evenly into the pocket, the Raging Bull TSE creates significantly more length and reacts extremely aggressively to the friction at the end of the oil pattern. As soon as the polished surface reaches the dry part of the lane, the HORN core unloads its full potential and generates a much more angular hook than the symmetric counterpart from Storm. When the inevitable transition sets in over the course of a block and balls like the Phaze II start losing energy too early, the Raging Bull TSE offers the excellent option of playing deeper boards and projecting the ball further outside.
On the Lanes On the lanes, in its polished out-of-the-box state, the Seismic Raging Bull TSE turns out to be an extremely potent weapon for medium to lighter oil conditions or specifically shorter oil patterns. The fine polish helps the coverstock get through the heads absolutely effortlessly and with minimal energy loss, only reacting explosively to the absence of oil at the very end of the pattern. The very sharp reaction to the friction at the breakpoint should deliver an above-average entry angle, which in turn maximizes carry and massively reduces the likelihood of leaving pins standing. If you naturally have a rather low ball speed or a lower rev rate, you'll appreciate the extra-long skid phase while the ball still returns to the pocket in a highly dynamic fashion. For bowlers who often play long patterns or a lot of oil, the Raging Bull TSE also offers enormous versatility. The cover can easily be scuffed up with pads if needed. With a dull surface, the ball immediately turns into a heavy-oil workhorse that reads the lane very early and provides incredibly strong traction. Left in its polished state, however, it is the ideal tool for moments when the lane is drying up more and more and the transition forces you to move your starting position and target noticeably inside. It allows you to play the deeper boards with confidence while storing the power needed to bring the final backend hook to the target aggressively yet reliably.
