The Storm !Q Tour Supreme was released in July 2017 as a special international release, adding another pearl option to the legendary !Q series. Technically, the ball relies on the proven combination that made this line famous: at its center works the symmetrical C3 Centripetal Control Core. At 15 pounds, it delivers a low RG of 2.49 and a low differential of 0.029. Those numbers translate into a very controlled, early-starting rotation paired with moderate flare potential. The core is wrapped in the R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock, probably the best-known shell blend out of the Storm house for clean skid. The surface comes out of the box with a 1500-grit polished finish. This high-gloss polish lets the ball pass through the heads effortlessly and respond to friction only late, where it initiates a smooth but definite move to the pocket.
Comparison
In comparison, the Storm !Q Tour Supreme shows the classic virtues of a symmetrical pearl ball with a low differential. Directly compared to the original Storm !Q Tour (solid), the Supreme offers considerably more length through the heads and a quicker response to friction on the backend, yet remains just as controllable and avoids exaggerated "skid-flip" motion. Compared to the Storm Hy-Road, which also uses the R2S shell, the !Q Tour Supreme revs up noticeably earlier and more stably due to its lower RG (2.49 vs. 2.57), while the Hy-Road skids longer and often looks more angular on the backend. Against stronger asymmetrical pearl balls such as the Storm Code Red, the Supreme is much rounder and less aggressive in its change of direction, which makes it more predictable when lane conditions get tougher.
On the Lanes
The ideal application range for the Storm !Q Tour Supreme is medium to drier oil conditions, or once the heads have already been played in (transition). It's the perfect choice when benchmark balls with a solid surface start losing energy too early or reacting too sluggishly. Thanks to the R2S Pearl shell, the ball stores its energy to the end of the oil pattern and uses the low differential of the C3 core to make a controlled arc into the pocket instead of jumping off the spot unpredictably. For tournament players it's an indispensable tool for controlling the pocket when the oil field gets unsettled. It forgives mistakes in ball speed and, despite the polished surface, offers enough midlane read not to slide through the breakpoint. If you have a higher rev rate, you'll especially appreciate it for keeping the lane open without having to fear an overreaction.
