BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Hammer Purple Solid Reactive looks nearly identical to its legendary urethane predecessor in a striking purple, but under the hood it hides a technologically decisive update. At the center of the ball works the proven symmetric LED core, which is also used in the urethane version but has been modified for this model. Due to the change in shell density, a 15 lbs ball comes in with a 2.586 RG and a 0.027 differential. This core is paired with a pure "Reactive Solid" coverstock, finished out of the box with a 500/1500 Siaair Micro Pad. This combination of a high-RG core (which pushes the ball long through the heads) and a tacky but controllable reactive surface should fill a unique gap in the arsenal: a look that recalls the control of urethane, but equipped with the dynamics and pin carry of reactive resin.
Comparison
The most important reference point for this ball is without a doubt the Hammer Purple Pearl Urethane. In a direct comparison, the Purple Solid Reactive generates significantly more flare potential thanks to its material. While the urethane version reads very early and describes an extremely smooth curve, the Solid Reactive uses friction more efficiently to make a more defined arc at the breakpoint. It is therefore "faster" than its urethane counterpart, but compared to typical benchmark balls like the Motiv Venom Shock or the Roto Grip Hustle series it remains considerably rounder and more controllable. It avoids the often unwanted backend "snap" that many modern reactive balls show, offering instead a strengthened version of the classic "urethane arc". Compared to stronger balls from the same house, such as the Black Widow series, the Purple Solid Reactive is much tamer and starts up later, which makes it a specialized option for controlled play.
On the Lanes
The ideal scenario for the Hammer Purple Solid Reactive is on short to medium oil patterns, or when the transition makes playing straight urethane difficult. When urethane balls start hitting the pocket without enough power (poor carry) or lose energy too early, this ball offers the solution. It lets you play the same line, but generates more backend hook through its reactive component and improves the entry angle into the pins. If you have a high rev rate, it's an excellent choice on house shots for taming the often over-reacting dry outside boards without losing control. Strokers and players with less hand rotation benefit from the fact that, despite its length through the heads, the ball responds reliably to friction where urethane would often arrive too flat. It serves as a bridge when the lane is too dry for high-performance balls but no longer suited to urethane.
