First Impressions
The Storm Pro-Motion Tour comes in classic Steel Blue and represents an evolution of the original Pro-Motion. With the R2X Solid surface, users can identify clean skid through the heads with sufficient midlane traction. This slightly more aggressive coverstock variant compared to the familiar R2S material sits in the middle of Storm's reactivity scale and grabs neither too early nor too late. The proven symmetrical Piston Core produces a 2.52 RG and a 0.049 differential, which gives the ball its characteristic ball motion. The channels on the sides of the Piston Core and the large band running through the equator distribute the mass in a specific way and provide a medium RG that is neither too high nor too low.
Comparison
While the original SPEC material of the Pro-Motion series was excellent at ignoring heavy oil and perfectly filled the gap between the R2S and NRG coverstocks, the Tour version with R2X positions itself differently in the spectrum. The perfect balance between porosity and durability makes the R2X surface versatile for a range of player types. Compared to the Storm IQ Tour, the Pro-Motion Tour shows a stronger midlane reaction while maintaining more controlled backend behavior. Where the Storm Phaze II has an earlier and sharper transition, the Pro-Motion Tour should produce a smoother, more continuous arc. It is positioned between the more aggressive premium balls like the Storm Crux Prime and the controlled benchmark options of the IQ series.
On the Lanes
The Pro-Motion Tour is ideally suited to medium to heavier oil volumes, where its R2X surface comes into its own. The clean skid through the heads combined with reliable midlane traction makes it an excellent choice for tournament players on longer patterns. If you're a power player, you'll benefit from the controlled reaction along with sufficient hitting power, while strokers will appreciate the predictability of the arc. As a dynamic symmetrical piece with unique characteristics, it appeals to many bowlers and fits a variety of styles. The ball particularly shows its strengths on lanes with a clear transition between oil and dry thanks to the balanced R2X formulation. The medium RG and differential values allow both pin-up and pin-down layouts for different reaction requirements.
