First Impressions
The Brunswick Prism Hybrid comes in an attractive cyan/black/white design and, at its market launch in October 2019, introduced the Prism series along with the new Portal core. This asymmetric core features an ultra-low RG of 2.46 and a high differential of 0.051, combined with an intermediate bias differential of 0.018. The cover is Brunswick's Activator Composite Technology (ACT) hybrid coverstock, pre-sanded with 500 Siaair and then polished with Crown Factory Compound. The Portal core works in conjunction with DynamiCore technology, which promises less compression at impact and increased hitting power.
Comparison
Within the Prism series, the Hybrid sits in the middle, between the stronger Brunswick Prism Solid for heavy oil conditions and less aggressive options. The original Prism Hybrid was very long with extreme backend motion, while the later Brunswick Prism Warp Hybrid takes an in-between position with controllable but strong backend continuation. Comparable balls are the Brunswick Hero, Brunswick Kingpin Rule and Brunswick Knock Out, with the Prism Hybrid standing out for its skid/flip characteristic and a reaction strength rating of 84. Compared to the later A.C.T. 2.0 version of the Brunswick Prism Warp Hybrid, the original ACT hybrid formulation offers somewhat more moderate performance.
On the Lanes
The Prism Hybrid is meant to handle transition and broken-down or lower oil volume conditions, which makes it an ideal choice for medium oil. The new cover gains traction through the oil without trouble on fresh medium patterns and shows no signs of sliding at the breakpoint, while making a strong turn at the end of the pattern. The polished surface should deliver easy length while still reacting at the breakpoint. These factors make it a shiny ball with an asymmetric core that can read the midlane well and deliver a powerful, angular backend reaction. The ball is especially suited to you if you're looking for a reliable skid/flip reaction on medium conditions with enough margin for error, without reacting too early or too late.
