First Impressions
The Motiv Pride presents itself as a perfect benchmark ball with completely new core and coverstock technology, filling an important gap in the MOTIV lineup. Visually, the ball impresses with a modern design that reflects its technical sophistication. The asymmetric Dominion core features a medium RG of 2.50 inches, a medium total differential of 0.042 inches, and a medium intermediate differential of 0.010 inches. The new Coercion UCS Solid reactive coverstock ships at 4000 grit LSS. These specs position the Pride between the Gear APG and the asymmetric cores of the Trident and Jackal series.
Comparison
Compared to other benchmark balls, the Pride shows remarkable versatility. Head to head, it offers more midlane traction and more overall hook than the Motiv Fatal Venom and the Supra Enzo, but allows straighter lines than the Motiv Ripcord. Compared to the Motiv Venom Shock, the Pride shows a stronger, slightly longer, and more controlled reaction, positioning itself between the weaker Shock and stronger balls like the Motiv Ghost or Legacy. The unique asymmetric specs take advantage of the Dominion core's physics, so the Pride can be used on moderate oil volumes and higher friction than typical asymmetric balls. The character differs noticeably from symmetric benchmark options, yet it offers more control over the ball motion than most symmetric cores.
On the Lanes
The Pride proved usable on a variety of lane patterns for all testers, but showed the best match on medium oil patterns. Strokers appreciated the continuous motion on fresh medium oil lanes, with the ball reacting smoothly and predictably at the breakpoint while remaining strong and continuous enough to move into the oil as the lanes broke down. For balanced players, the Pride serves as the centerpiece of the arsenal — the first ball out of the bag and the most frequently used ball, its controllable core/cover combination allowing use on various surfaces and oil concentrations. If you're rev-dominant, you'll benefit from the lower differential and cleaner surface compared to most asymmetric solids, which allow use on more patterns and higher friction surfaces. The 4000 grit LSS surface proved extremely versatile and responded well to surface changes.
