First Impressions
Released in August 2018, the Track Precision marks the introduction of a new high-performance flagship in the Track lineup. The focus was on developing a ball that not only generates plenty of hook, but does so with a high degree of predictability ("precision"). Inside works the newly developed asymmetric Precision SD (Single Density) core. With a low 2.49 RG and a strong 0.054 differential plus an intermediate diff of 0.020 (at 15 lbs), this core is a real powerhouse for revving up early. The shell is the Prime Response Solid coverstock, a further development of the chemistry Track uses in its high-end series. The factory finish of 500/2000 Abralon gives the ball in Navy/Orange/Black a dull texture that makes one thing clear right away: this ball wants to see oil and grab early.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Track Alias, its immediate predecessor in the high-performance segment, the Precision shows a clear step forward in backend motion. Where the Alias rolled extremely early and sometimes came across as a bit slow off the end of the pattern ("lazy"), the Precision offers better energy retention and a stronger entry angle into the pocket thanks to the new core design. Set against the legendary Track Paradox Black, the Precision reads the lane a touch earlier, but appears somewhat more defined at the breakpoint. Against the competition, for instance an Ebonite Choice (Solid), the Track Precision often shows a more angular reaction ("pop") at the end of the pattern, which is rather unusual for a dull asymmetric ball, since those normally run very rounded.
On the Lanes
The Track Precision is a primary choice for heavy oil and long sport patterns. It was designed to dominate on fresh lanes when you need traction to keep from sliding through the oil. Its particular strength is the combination of midlane readability and backend power. It digs through the oil in the heads, but retains enough rotation to drive through the pins with authority. It's ideal if you like to play a bit deeper inside but need the security of knowing the ball won't refuse to change direction. On dry lanes or heavily broken-down heads, however, it is usually too strong and burns up too much energy, which makes it look "dead."
